Commentary: Matthew 1:1-17

Thus the total number of generations; from David to the Babylonian exile, fourteen generations; from the Babylonian exile to the Christ, fourteen generations.

Jesus, the account of your genealogy is a great witness to the importance of a mother’s “yes”. I don’t know what you will do with my willingness to have the children you want to give me, maybe the next great saint will come along 100 years from now. I want to follow the example of your mother’s “Yes”, but I know ultimately, she could not have said yes to being your mother if it had not been for many other “yes’s” before that. Help me start by saying “yes” to getting out of bed quickly in the morning ready to serve you, and follow that with many more throughout my day.
