Commentary: Mark 2: 1-12

Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven’ or to say, ‘Rise, pick up your mat and walk’? But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority to forgive sins on earth”—he said to the paralytic, “I say to you, rise, pick up your mat, and go home.”

Jesus, you understand my need for outward signs of your grace. My faith is so weak. For the same reason, the people of your time needed miracles to believe in your divine power. Help me never to take the sacraments for granted as the source and sign of your action in my life and help me to bring those I love to receive them—just as the friends of the paralytic did.
