Commentary: Matthew 5:1-12
When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain, and after he had sat down, his disciples came to him. He began to teach them saying: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land.”
Jesus, you are constantly steering my heart to your priorities and away from my own that are so temporary. Help me to show my children with my example that what really matters is not the big and little stresses of daily life, but that we are seeking to be closer to You through them. I am poor in spirit if I offer what I don’t have but would like, to you Lord. I am meek when I rectify my desire for recognition by thanking you for making it possible for me to do anything well.
Resolution: Make an act of mercy for someone who needs it in your family today. (Example: Help one of the kids who might be struggling with frustration or fatigue with a chore.)
