Commentary: John 6: 44-51
“I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.”
Jesus, you offer me eternal life through your body in the Eucharist every day. You died on the cross to make yourself available to us with such vulnerability. You wait for me to seek you out as you willingly sit under the appearance of a piece of bread in the tabernacle, all alone. My Lord and my God! If I am able to go to Mass, do I give you the attention you deserve so that I am preparing myself well to receive you? Lord, help me to fight the distractions that constantly interrupt my prayer. Help me to bring the intentions of my family, my children’s needs, their vocations to the altar. If I am unable to attend Mass, do I tell you how much I wish I could receive you, trying to look for ways to make whatever sacrifice it might take to be able to in the future?
Resolution: Can I visit a nearby tabernacle today, just to thank Jesus for His loving sacrifice? If I can’t go there in person, can I imagine the closest tabernacle and go in my heart?
