Commentary: Mark 1: 40-45

Then he said to him, “See that you tell no one anything, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing what Moses prescribed; that will be proof for them.” The man went away and began to publicize the whole matter. He spread the report abroad so that it was impossible for Jesus to enter a town openly.

Jesus, your words today remind me of many times I have asked my children for discretion. I want to teach my children, through my example, how powerful our gift of speech is, and how to discern its proper use. How many souls have been won by a word spoken at the right moment? How many souls have been lost by words spoken that should never have been?
