Commentary: John 14: 27-31a
Jesus said to his disciples: “Peace I leave you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.”
Jesus, you said these words to your apostles at the Last Supper, as you were preparing for your Passion and death. The peace you offer me is not a promise that I will not suffer. You knew that your followers would suffer, including me, but pain and peace are like two inseparable sides of a coin when I am close to You. As a mother, there are many sufferings, big and little, every day, but when I offer you my pain, uniting it to your suffering on the cross, I have the peace of knowing that it is doing so much good for the people I love, who are my intentions. Like a runner, the pains of the race are necessary to bring us to the finish line.
Resolution: Offer a voluntary sacrifice for the child who needs it the most today. (Example: Eat the leftovers that nobody wanted for lunch today for the child who needs it the most)
