Commentary: Matthew 7: 15-20
Jesus said to his disciples: “Beware of false prophets who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but underneath are ravenous wolves. By their fruits you will know them. Do people pick grapes from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles? Just so, every good tree bears good fruit and a rotten tree bears bad fruit.”
Jesus, there are so many ideas that are being pushed about whet the best strategy is for raising my children, what products are good, what type of education, what extracurriculars, what media. Ultimately, I know that I want my children to be grounded in faith and strong family unity. Help me to use your litmus test on everything I consider letting into my child’s life. What fruit does it produce? Is it the fruit I was actually seeking? Give me the courage and wisdom to recognize the things, places and even habits that need to change in my family life if it is not leading to peace and joy in the home.
Resolution: Set a date to discuss “what’s working and what’s not” in your family culture with your husband. Repeat.

At least one celebration each summer merits the oh-so-easy: Ice Cream Sandwich Cake
To make it, Line a baking sheet with foil. Lay out ice cream sandwiches side by side to make the base of whatever size cake you need. Top with cool whip and sprinkle crushed heath bar on top. Add another layer of ice cream sandwiches and cover the entire cake (top and sides) with more cool whip. Sprinkle more crushed heath (or any other candy of your choosing) and drizzle hard shell chocolate sauce for the finish. Freeze until you are ready to eat!
Books for Mom (or Dad)
Family vacations can be a good time to pull kids who are ready, to go for a walk on the beach or a row in the canoe and talk about sex, or revisit the issue if it’s already been brought up. This is a great guide for parents who might need some help knowing how to get started.
